Dear Teachers,

Our Lego Robotics Team is getting the word out to other kids to STOP THAT DRIP and conserve water. While researching water issues for our First LEGO League Water Dynamics Challenge project, we learned there are places all over the world that are running out of water. Our first thought was “we’re just kids, what can we do?” But then we realized there are probably a lot of other kids (and adults too) who don’t realize that taking long showers or leaving the water on while brushing their teeth adds to the water crisis.

The U.S. population has doubled over the past 50 years, while our thirst for water has tripled. With at least 40 states anticipating water shortages by 2024, the need to conserve water is critical.  Water Conservation at EPA

We surveyed 135 kids in our school and asked what they knew about water. Their answers were all over the place. And that’s when we saw the problem. Kids don’t even realize HOW they waste water. It was clear they needed more education. And now we had a challenge—how could we share information in a fun way? And where do kids go to find information? Why videos, of course! Our survey showed where we could make the most impact and our research gave us ways to save water. We found an animation program that was easy for kids to use — and soon we had our video. We even wrote an original song!

We hope that our message continues past LEGO robotics and that our little drip gets heard around the world.

Thanks for sharing,

The Drip Kids and their coaches
